I have a new tumblr over at makeshiftutopia which chronicles several of the artistic|modding|making|creative projects that I’ve done over the years.
The latest is Project BlinkyShoes, wherein I’m combining lucite stripper shoes with a LilyPad Arduino microcontroller and a bunch of LEDs, with the intention of flashing (1) Morse Code messages and (2) Crazy Party mode. Check it out and vote on an official name for the project!

According to NewYorkology, artist Jan Vormann has been busy repairing some holes in New York City buildings with Legos!
One of my favorite things about New York is that every inch of it has been touched by someone, at some point. You can’t even stand on the corner waiting for a crossing light without seeing at least one way someone’s left a piece of themselves in this city … Never fails to make me smile.
Yes, I walk around smiling inexplicably. A lot.
Here’s a cleaned up scan of Molly Crabapple’s pencil & ink sketch of me from yesterday. I love her aesthetic so much.

I still remember the first time I saw a print of Picasso’s Guernica when I was in fifth grade. I had one of those completely-absorbed-reality-fading kind of moments you never forget. It’s still one of my favorites, and seeing this video was like seeing it again for the first time. Wow.
I would love to see this treatment applied to other works; it’s stunning. Hmmm…. Monet? Dali? Murakami? Miró? Yes, please.

Give her money; it’s a good GREAT cause!

I usually remember books by their cover, because that is often a good way to judge if the content/brand will appeal to you. We must judge books by their covers in the modern world because of the rapid production output of the information economy.
[Catcher in the Rye] reminds me of ‘a book that some bro would list in their fave books section of their Facebook profile.’ I don’t have very many positive experiences with the brand extension of Catcher in the Rye. … Feel like the Holden Caulfield costume never really ‘caught on’ like the Richie Tenenbaum costume.
